Staff / Senior Accountant

Fortress is seeking motivated and resourceful applicants to join our finance and accounting team. The Staff/Senior Accountant is a core part of the Fortress team which also works collaboratively with our controlled subsidiaries and their teams.
Location and position:
The position’s title will be dependent on experience and will be located in our Waltham, MA office (hybrid work arrangement) and reports to the Assistant Controller and/or Senior Accountant.
Role overview
Responsible for accounting close functions in a consolidated financial reporting environment and various projects. Maintains private subsidiary close workbooks as well as select parent company close workbooks. Manages allocations for shared expenses and intercompany expenses. Assists with internal control environment and reporting to executive management, including cash reporting and planning.
Responsibilities include:
- Accounting duties:
- Interdepartmental allocations of shared expenses based on headcount and other data.
- Inter-company invoicing/billing including operating expenses, allocations and invoices.
- Documents transactions and updates ledgers and workbooks, including full ownership over private subsidiary closing workbooks.
- Audits expense reports for accuracy and processes expense reports, allocates and enters monthly credit card spend.
- Assists with contract approvals and purchase order
- Assists with preparing and paying various tax requirements including state franchise taxes.
- SOX administration/testing:
- Works with internal and external parties to drive annual SOX testing to ensure properly functioning control environment.
- Compiles support and problem solves to complete work timely with external consultants.
- Participate in annual documentation of control environment.
- Compiles proper support for regular SOX controls within payables and payroll workflows
- Reporting and ad-hoc duties
- Prepares and provides weekly and monthly cash reporting to the executive team on a regular basis.
- Prepares ad-hoc governmental reporting as requested by various regulatory bodies.
- Participates as needed in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

- Solid understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them effectively to the job and tasks.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, demonstration of accurate and thorough work.
- Adaptability and openness to feedback within a collaborative work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
To be considered for this role, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or related field and at least 1 year of accounting experience. Public accounting or in-house life sciences experience is a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft products, especially Microsoft Excel, is required. Experience with NetSuite or a similar system is preferred but not required.
